I remember being particularly pleased by the fact that Franks voice live is exactly as it is in the recordings. And just listen to the music, hear him sing. It’s expertly done with an intense range of style, touch, and mood. And you’re there watching him do it all live, with Gabbie backing him up (Frank by the way is Gabbie’s mentor!!!), then you’ve got the rest of the band playing perfect without any mistakes…at least none that were obvious to me who was listening to the point that I couldn’t be spoken to. And this all from just the first time I’d seen them! I still had another night with them at Club Dredd. Infact, lets talk about that. Club Dredd, Wednesday night, January 9, 2008. Another huge WOW for me. To be completely honest, it was an even better experience than my night with them at Saguijo. Possibly for a number of reasons? At Saguijo I filmed the whole set with 8’s camera so my view of everything was pretty much through a lens. At Dredd I sat and watched and listened more intensely, had a chance to raise my hands with certain lyrics, I could sing along as well and not worry that my voice was being recorded instead of Franks voice, plus I experienced it this time with friends who were as well familiar with the songs. I remember even noticing how the 3 guitarists mixed and matched all these different guitar parts which I had not noticed at Saguijo. I guess listening to music through a lens of a camera is a completely different experience from one just listening without a single other distraction. Gabbie’s back-up vocals were brilliant as well and done with just the right volume and intensity. Buwi’s bass playing molded right in with Janjan’s drumming and even the way everyone moved onstage was so admirable. Not too much flair, beautifully simply, a comfortable sway, and smiles at certain points of certain songs. Frank was even comical in that he pointed out that all of them were just in slippers and that janjan hadn’t gotten the memo cuz he was the only one in sneakers. Naturally, that was a joke and I got it. By the end of the fifth song, as expected, we all wanted more but knew that there was no more to come. Respect. I mean, how spoiled are you if you’re watching a moving set and selfishly ask for more when you’re already priviledged to even be there? I thanked them and walked away from the 2nd floor to take a moment of silence and take in what I’d just experienced.
